  1. I LOVE this idea. It's always so boring because the groups always feel the same. Personally, for qualifying at least, I would to further and randomise the whole thing. No pots of seeds at all. Sure, some confederations like South America or Oceania, with the few teams, you can't do much of anything, but for somewhere like Europe, it would solve the 2 big criticisms.

    1) Most qualifying games for big teams are dull and boring – Well, if it's random, and you get a group with Italy, England, Holland and Spain in it, and at best 2 go forward, those games become so much more.
    2) The minnow nations are pointless – They're only minnows because they can't develop. you can only develop if you progress. And look at the Euros with the likes of Albania, Iceland and Hungary. Those were great stories. Imagine a group largely comprised of smaller nations where they stood a real chance of coming to play with the big boys.

    But in terms of the World Cup, pots by ranking and, hopefully, no confederation quotas, that is a great first step.
