  1. My mom used to make these with Bisquick, which is pricey when you don't use it often. Now that you confirmed for me that Self Rising is just as good if not better, I think I'll be making these more now.

  2. chef john !! can you make a dish using rice paper? i have it at home and would love to use it but dont know how

  3. Watching these videos really helped me be less anxious about experimenting in the kitchen. I find the "You're the __ of ___" puns actually pretty empowering when I cook.

  4. Doesn't seem like the balls rise or get bigger or anything despite the self-rising flour.
I feel really tempted to just roll the meat-dough out and punch circles out of it to make regular biscuits. To make them rise would I need to add more flour and baking powder?
EDIT: NVM I just made this iwth the normal flour and baking powder amount and they got BIG. Super delicious 😀

  5. made a playlist. added this video. actually going to make those. i like food that clanks loudly against a plate.

  6. I was about to rip my hair out and stab my eyes when you double dipped but then you allayed my fears that some unsuspecting soul might come along and unwittingly pick up some of your genetic code and Streptococcus mutans from your buccal swab…it's like you knew. Thank you Chef John, thank you!

  7. My grandmother used to make something very similar around Christmas time. I always loved them. I thought it was a southern thing, but maybe not?

  8. I was looking for a dish o take to a group pot luck that is mainly finger food,  And I thought Chef John and Wood Fishes (yes a spoonerism to counter act your relentless puns) would be sure to know something good.  But you ruined this with you prohibition for service to sober people.  Not the thing for a gathering of AA members then.  We do still enjoy life you know!

  9. 0:48 – "Add a lot of grated cheddar cheese. And one GRATE tip here…"

I'm disappointed, John. You missed an easy pun there.
